Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal - What Are They?
Worried About Having A Laser Hair Removal Problem or Two?
You're right. Laser hair removal, while a safe procedure, is not entirely risk free. So it pays to at least be aware of the potential side effects of laser hair removal so you can discuss them with the clinic personnel during your initial consultation.
|
First off, after any treatment with hair removal lasers you can expect some redness, inflammation and perhaps some discomfort like you'd get from a sun burn. Any of these are normal side effects from laser hair removal treatment. They should all clear up in a matter of days.
Also your first reaction will most likely be your worst reaction since your hair will be most dense the first time around. But that shouldn't impact the laser hair removal effectiveness you experience.
Otherwise here's some other side effects from laser hair removal treatment you might experience.
|
Hyperpigmentation, or the darkening of the skin, is one of the possible side effects of laser hair removal. Not likely if the tech is using the right laser for your skin type at the correct settings, this is usually a temporary laser hair removal problem that should fade away in a matter of days. This should not be confused with purpura (or bruising) which can occur with if you have tanned or darker skin. Like hyperpigmentation, purpura is generally a temporary condition and should clear up in a week or two.
Hypopigmentation is a lightening of the skin. Another of the laser hair removal problems. Usually occurs to those with darker skin since laser energy is attracted to darker pigment.
Burning, while rare, can occur if the laser is set too high. Not unlike a burn from a hot curling iron, you may see redness or in some cases blistering.
Should you experience any of these three side effects of laser hair removal you want to contact the hair removal clinic and let them know. Typically they'll have to come in so it can be decided if you should see a doctor or if your laser hair removal problem will respond to follow up care. Most of the time the latter will suffice.
